I’m Shannon Parks, a granddaughter of Susie and Garnet E. Parks. For decades various members of our family tried to solve the mystery of what became of my grandfather after he left in the summer of 1929. It was in 2017, that our cousin Kelly found a document on ancestry.com that revealed a portion of the truth of it and I began to dig for more. I went to court and county records, local historical societies, hospitals, researchers, and librarians in every town they lived.
What our family stories lacked by way of accuracy, they made up for in color, but it was the newspapers, (both my grandfather’s papers and the surrounding local news), that provided me with the best view into their life. It seems my grandmother knew more than she ever revealed about the circumstances surrounding his mysterious departure. It would be up to one of us to bring it to light. I was happy to do it and also, it was a pleasure getting to know you G.E. Parks.
